Mail Services handles the University’s incoming and outgoing mail. Although not affiliated with the U.S. Postal Service, the University’s Mail Services staff strives to provide quality service to meet the mailing and shipping needs of the campus community.
Letters, packages, and other mail sent through the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, and FedEx cannot be delivered to student residences on campus. All such items must come through University Mail Services. Recipients can retrieve their deliveries at the Mail Services counter during normal hours of operation.
Student Mailboxes
Mailboxes assigned to individual students are on the second floor of the Drysdale Student Center near the Westover Room dining area. Students can identify their assigned campus mailbox number and access combination online:
1. MyLynchburg ➝ Students Online
2. Enter data-access PIN
3. Under the column “Personal,” select “Assigned Numbers.”
Student Mailing Address
For accurate and prompt delivery, mail sent to students should be addressed as follows:
Student Name and Mailbox Number
University of Lynchburg
1501 Lakeside Drive
Lynchburg, VA 24501-3113
When mail or a package is addressed to the University without the name of a specific individual or University department, the item is forwarded to and opened by the University’s Business Office. If the contents of the item indicate the intended recipient, the Business Office sends the items back to Mail Services for delivery through regular campus mail processes.
Deliveries to Student Mailboxes
Incoming letters are typically placed in students’ mailboxes by noon on weekdays, excluding observed holidays.
When an incoming package is addressed to a student’s mailbox, Mail Services notifies the student recipient via email that the package can be picked up at the Mail Services counter. A student should present their University ID when picking up a package. Due to U.S. Postal Service regulations, packages containing perishable items are discarded if not picked up within seven days.
On-Campus Mail
Mail Services distributes inter-campus mail addressed to University students, employees, and offices from the following sources: students, employees, and recognized student organizations. Use of the campus mail system for mass notices (50 or more) is restricted to authorized groups. The sender’s name and campus mailbox number must appear on all campus mail.
Cash should never be sent through campus mail.
Outgoing Mail
Outgoing mail that is submitted at the Mail Services counter before noon on weekdays is typically processed the same business day. Outgoing mail submitted after noon is typically processed during the next business day.
• Return Address – List the sender’s name, address, and University mailbox number on the upper left-hand corner of all outgoing mail.
• International Mail – Outgoing mail or packages designated for locations outside the United States must be properly marked and bundled. To ensure accuracy for prompt delivery, senders are encouraged to coordinate international mailings with the Mail Services staff.
