Scott Meeks ’95 was the Grand Prize Winner of the Create Cooking Challenge. The winners of the contest, which had a theme of “Easy Peasy,” were announced by American Public Television in May.
Meeks, a Lynchburg, Virginia, native and communication studies alumnus, won for his recipe, Sweet Tea Barbecue. For winning, he received a $4,000 cash prize and will be producing a 10-part web series on CreateTV.com. The series is expected to launch this fall.
Cooking demonstrations submitted by the contestants were judged by Create hosts and culinary experts.
Buki Elegbede, the 2017 Create Cooking Challenge Winner and host of “Table for all with Buki Elegbede,” noted that Meeks was “ready for primetime!” adding, “Personality shines through the camera! Great presentation and unique dish. I can’t wait to try.”
Meeks, a longtime TV news reporter, currently works as senior director of social media and public relations for a national nonprofit for prostate cancer. In his spare time, he makes videos for his YouTube channel, Crunchy Scott. He also wrote a children’s book, “Crunchy Kids: Crafting, Cooking & Celebrating the Planet.”
