The University of Lynchburg baseball team welcomed Del. Wendell Walker to Shellenberger Field Wednesday night as the state representative presented the Hornets with a copy of a resolution he offered during a special session at the state legislature.
Walker has served as a representative for Lynchburg and the 23rd district in the Virginia House of Delegates since 2019. He is a passionate supporter of Lynchburg’s athletic teams and was following closely during the baseball team’s national championship in June.
On Sept. 6, he offered a resolution to the state legislature recognizing Lynchburg’s national championship.
“We are grateful for the support of Delegate Walker during our national championship,” Head Coach Travis Beazley said. “It’s a really cool experience for our players to be recognized for their accomplishments not just by the delegate, but by everyone in our community.”

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the University of Lynchburg Hornets are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire University of Lynchburg community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the University of Lynchburg baseball team hereby be commended for winning the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Championship
Prior to the men’s soccer game on campus on Wednesday, Walker and the baseball team were recognized at midfield. Walker presented the Hornets with a copy of the resolution. View the full resolution here.

The Hornets defeated Johns Hopkins 7-6 in June for the program’s first national championship. It was the second NCAA championship trophy in the school’s history, with the women’s soccer team reaching the pinnacle in 2014. Lynchburg’s equestrian team won the National Collegiate Equestrian Association national championship in 2022 and 2023.
