For Yazmine Jones ’23 MSAT, learning is nonstop at Lynchburg.
“I really do think that every moment is a learning moment, as cliché as that sounds,” she said.
“You come in here and you think you know something and you learn that there’s not always one answer. There are a lot of ways to come at a problem. There’s never a day where I’m not learning something or something that I know [isn’t] being challenged.”
Jones, who hails from Franklin County, Virginia, earned her undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech. She chose Lynchburg’s Master of Science in Athletic Training program after meeting one of the athletic trainers.
“He was just a great AT,” she said, “so I felt confident that this program could develop me into being a great AT.”
She describes Lynchburg’s faculty and staff as “super smart,” adding, “All of them have their own little niche. … Dr. Tom Bowman has his hand in all types of research and Dr. Pat Aronson has won all types of awards, and she’s been around and done a lot of things, and Dr. Debbie Bradney as well. They just know everything that you need to know.”
Jones enjoys the close relationships she’s developed with her professors and preceptors.
“There are a lot of preceptors around that went here and that take us under their wing and kind of teach us,” she said. “That personal relationship allows them to challenge you individually.”
