Dr. Cynthia Ramsey and Dr. Tim Schauer will be the featured speakers for the University Lecture Series this semester, which begins on Monday, Feb 6. Admission is free and the public is invited.
At 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, Ramsey will present “Creativity on the Go: Integrative Ideas for Your Classroom.” Her lecture will be held in Sydnor Performance Hall. Ramsey, a professor of music and chair of the music department, will discuss the importance of creativity in higher education classrooms.
In a description of her lecture, Ramsey writes, “As collegiate educators, if we are looking for creative qualities but teach only in a manner that rewards how well they memorize, then we are not tapping into their full potential.
“In this interactive research session, you will learn about the creative process and experience strategies that will help you tap into your students’ creative process.”
At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, Schauer, an assistant professor of marketing, will present “Entrepreneurial Thinking — More than Business — Expanding Your Life.” Schauer’s lecture will be held in the Memorial Ballroom.
In his talk, Schauer will speak about the concepts behind entrepreneurial thinking and its potential benefits outside the business setting.
“Entrepreneurial thinking is manifest in many successful people — from artists to zoologists,” Schauer argues in his abstract. “[As] we discover and apply the principles associated with entrepreneurial thinking, we unlock additional personal potential and opportunity.”
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Allison Jablonski noted that the University Lecture Series has been a staple in Lynchburg’s academic sphere since 2018, allowing the campus community to learn from and celebrate its scholars, educators, and mentors.
