The University of Lynchburg has received a $50,000 grant from the Hall-Halliburton Foundation, a Florida-based philanthropic organization that has been making gifts to select charities since 1977. The grant will benefit the University’s Doctor of Medical Science program and Professional Development Institute.
The Professional Development Institute operates out of Lynchburg’s Center for Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, which was formed in July 2021. The center grew out of the Task Force on Innovation and Collaboration, led by Dr. Jeremy Welsh, Lynchburg’s chief innovation officer and executive director of the Center for Innovation and Strategic Partnerships.
“This is a great opportunity to facilitate the high-quality content that will support the lifelong learning efforts of our students, faculty, staff, community, and alumni,” said Welsh, who also is dean of the School of PA Medicine, founder of the DMSc program, and chief academic officer of Community Access Network, a nonprofit health care center located in downtown Lynchburg.
According to Welsh, Randy Mahoney, chair of the Hall-Halliburton Foundation, recommended the University apply for the grant. Mahoney is a PA and current DMSc student.
“This foundation has done a lot for other medical curriculum/programs and supports the PA profession,” Welsh said. “It really is an honor to receive this funding and be recognized for the work that is coming out of PA, DMSc, and the Center for Innovation.”
