In a virtual Facebook Live ceremony on May 20, the Center for Economic Education at the University of Lynchburg honored outstanding student achievements and teacher contributions to economic education in area K-12 classrooms.
The Center for Economic Education promotes economic literacy in Central Virginia, with a special emphasis on K-12 teachers, by providing teachers with innovative, SOL-compliant economic education resources and training opportunities. The goal: to help students grow into competent, productive participants in the local and global economy.
Lynchburg’s Center for Economic Education is one of nine centers in Virginia under the governance of the Virginia Council on Economic Education and the Council for Economic Education. Stock Market Game Student Honorees
The Stock Market Game gives students in grades 4 through 12 the chance to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in an online portfolio. Students strive to create the best-performing portfolio using a live trading simulation. Working together in teams, students practice leadership, organization, negotiation, and cooperation as they compete for the top spot.

Governor’s Challenge in Economics and Personal Finance
The Governor’s Challenge in Economics and Personal Finance lets teams of high school students participate in a regional online test of 30 questions. High-scoring teams are invited to a state- level live competition showcasing their knowledge of economics and personal finance. State winners are then eligible to compete at the national level.
