How do secondary education students apply to the Educator Preparation Program (EPP)? Will they need to do this before being eligible for the Noyce scholarship?
Application to Educator Preparation Program (EPP)
- Apply to the EPP by February 1 (will change to December 15 in 2020) of their junior year at the latest if they are transfer students.
- Apply to the EPP by May 1 of their sophomore year if they entered Lynchburg as freshmen.
- They must be accepted into the program. To be accepted, they must meet the following requirements:
- QPA of 2.5 or above
- Grades of C- or above on all Content Core Courses (EDUC 101, 202, 201, and PSYC 245W). Grades of B- or above on all Field Experiences. Any content or education courses below requirements must be repeated. {Beginning in fall of 2020, students entering as freshmen must maintain an average GPA of 3.0 in the Content Core Courses and Field Experiences}.
- Pass the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA) with a minimum score of 235 in Reading and Writing subtests or 470 combined.
- Complete all major and minor (education) course requirements with grades of C- or above and B- in field experiences. {Beginning in fall of 2020, students entering as freshmen must maintain an average GPA of 3.0 in all Education Courses and Field Experiences}.
- Take Praxis II: Content Test in the discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Math) (see footnote 1). Praxis II must be taken before student teaching and must be passed for licensure (see footnote 2).
- Apply to student teach one semester before planned participation. Application deadline for a spring placement is September 15; deadline for fall placement is February 1. To be eligible to student teach:
- Prior admission to EPP
- Overall QPA of 2.50 or above (will change in 2020)
- QPA in the major of 2.75 or above (will change in 2020)
- Praxis II scores or testing ticket submitted with application (will change in 2020)
