Dr. Clifton Potter ’62, a history professor who retired from Lynchburg in 2019 after 54 years of teaching, will give a presentation about his latest book at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Historic Sandusky. The event is free and the public is invited.
Potter’s book, “Yankees in the Hill City: The Union Prisoner of War Camp in Lynchburg, Virginia, 1862-1865,” is billed as a “complete history” of the Union POW camp in Lynchburg. It was published this month by McFarland.
“This is an important addition to the bibliography of Lynchburg Civil War history,” said Greg Starbuck ’14, ’19 MA, executive director of Historic Sandusky. “Dr. Potter has been researching this topic for 60-plus years and we’re excited to see all of his hard work culminate in this book.
“This work contains so many little known, or unknown, aspects of Lynchburg history.”
Books will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation.
