The University of Lynchburg held its inaugural Renew, Empower, & Develop Day on Thursday, Aug. 8. Also called “RED Day” — a nod to Lynchburg’s colors — the event was described by University leadership as a “unique professional development day” and “an opportunity for [employees] to relax and feel refreshed before the start of a new academic year.”
The daylong event included three lecture sessions, led by internal and external speakers, along with lunch in Burton Dining Hall and team-building and professional development exercises. The highlight of the day was a talk by Betsy Butterick, a nationally known motivational speaker and communication specialist known as the “Coaches’ Coach.”
“I have had the privilege to hear Betsy speak on several occasions and always come away with a fresh understanding of ways to best serve and connect with our students,” Lynchburg Athletics Director Jon Waters said prior to the event.
“Her concepts and wisdom extend far beyond the setting of athletics and really help focus on strong communication and team building.”
Also addressing employees on RED Day were Emily Williamson, director of Lynchburg’s new Solutions Center, and Heather Bradley, associate vice president for marketing and communications.
