The University of Lynchburg’s 2024 Student Scholar Showcase, an annual celebration of student research, will take place throughout the day on Wednesday, April 17, at several venues on campus. The event, which is free and open to the public, will include a variety of academic talks and performances.
More than 140 students have registered to present their research or other academic activities. Topics will include lectures on clinical ethics, programming video games, and the effectiveness of the Sports Concussion Assessment Tool 5, also known as SCAT-5.
Presentations will begin at 8 a.m. in Sydnor Performance Hall and in classrooms at Schewel Hall, where Sydnor also is located. At 11:30 a.m., 2023-24 Sommerville Scholar Kelsey Spickler ’24 will give the keynote address in Sydnor Performance Hall.
Art students will display inflatable sculptures on the Dell beginning at 10 a.m. Curtain Call, Lynchburg musical theater ensemble, will perform from 2 to 3 p.m. in Dillard Fine Arts Center’s Hailey Theatre. Theatrical scenic painting will be displayed outside, in front of Dillard Fine Arts Center.
Health sciences students will present from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Hopwood Hall’s auditorium. Poster presentations representing broad academic disciplines will be exhibited in Turner Gymnasium from noon to 1:15 p.m.
The College of Education, Leadership Studies, and Counseling will host presentations, starting at 9:30 a.m. in classrooms in Thompson-Polloway Hall. Topics will include, among others, “Using Visualization to Find Solutions to the Fair Division Problem,” “Praise in the Collegiate Classroom: How Narcissism, Entitlement, Empathy, and a Desire for Fame Impact Student’s Preferences for Praise,” and “The Relationship Between Sport Type, Body Dissatisfaction, and Eating Disorder Risk in Female Collegiate Athletes.”
