Claudio Otero III’s path from Lynchburg to his current role as an opportunity navigator at the University of Virginia epitomizes a commitment to service, leadership, and continuous growth.
After receiving his bachelor’s in biology, Claudio embarked on a transformative journey with the National Benevolent Association XPLOR program in Dallas. Reflecting on this experience, he shared, “I’m super excited to start this program, as it’s a new chapter in my life — a chapter of growth, development, and new beginnings.”
His time with XPLOR not only allowed him to serve older adults but also helped him develop vital leadership and teaching skills. Claudio’s aspirations to become a science teacher were fueled by this experience, alongside a deepening of his spiritual connection.
Building upon his undergraduate success, Claudio pursued and obtained a Master of Education in Science Education from Lynchburg. During his time at Lynchburg, Claudio was deeply involved in campus life, contributing to organizations such as Alpha Psi Lambda National, Inc., Student Diversity Council, Student Activity Board, Man2Man, and Men’s Club Basketball. While studying for his graduate degree, he was also the graduate assistant in the Office of Equity and Inclusion.
