Student success is at the heart of the Lynchburg experience for faculty and staff — but also and especially for parents and families.
It’s why the Office of Student Development recently launched the Hornet Family Hive, an online resource powered by CampusESP. It’s designed to help parents and families better support their students by opting in to receive information and updates, and giving them the chance to easily connect with the University and other families.
The Hornet Family Hive is for all families — those of new students still adjusting to college life, as well as families of second, third- and fourth-year students. They’ll learn about campus resources, important dates, announcements, and other information to support student success at the University.
Annette Stadtherr, director of parent, family and new student connections, says she’d encourage everyone to sign up to help their students excel in college — academically and socially.
“In order for our parents and families to be our partner in their students’ success here at Lynchburg, we need to engage with them often,” she said. “The Hornet Family Hive powered by CampusESP allows us to do just that — and know what our families are interested in by seeing the communities they’re joining.”
Parents and families can select from a variety of online communities, including Financial Aid and Scholarships, First-Year Families, Athletics, Campus Life, Housing and Residence Life, First-Generation Families, Families of Transfer Students, Health and Safety, Career Development, and others. They can join new communities at any time by selecting “Discover Communities” on the bottom left-hand side of the platform’s homepage.
Families also can choose how often they’ll receive news and updates by clicking the person icon at the top right of the homepage and choosing “Edit Notification Preferences.” The platform also includes a comment feature that can be used to ask questions of student life staff and to engage with other parents and families. A star icon located to the right of each post allows families to save the post in their personal folders.
Families may access the Hornet Family Hive here. To sign up, simply enter your email address and answer a few questions.
