The University of Lynchburg will honor its U.S. military veterans with a concert, “Duty, Honor, Country: An American Salute,” on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 11 and 12. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Schewel Hall’s Sydnor Performance Hall. Tickets are free, but required for admission.
At the concert, Lynchburg’s Wind Symphony and Orchestra, directed by Dr. Oeida Hatcher with Joseph Nigro, and the Community Big Band, directed by Dr. Chris Magee, will perform music by Alfred Reed, David Holsinger, John Philip Sousa, and Michael Brown.
A portion of the program will be narrated by Sean Sandrock, of Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois.
“The concert focuses on the American spirit, family values, emigration opportunity, and the rich history of patriotism while honoring our armed forces veterans without being political,” Hatcher said, adding that the program also promises some surprises.
“The audience will have no idea where we are going in the concert, nor how ‘Duty, Honor, Country’ will be woven into the presentation.”
Following the show, there will be a reception with the musicians in the Flint Family Lobby, located on the first floor of Schewel Hall.
