Lynchburg Tomorrow, a joint initiative between the University of Lynchburg and the city of Lynchburg, has received an $8,000 grant from the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation.
Funds for the grant were provided by the Mary Emma Lemon Charitable Fund, the Davidson & Garrard Inc. Fund, the SunTrust Bank Fund, the Carl Hutcherson Fund, and GLCF’s Unrestricted Fund.
“We are grateful to the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation for contributing to our mission,” said University of Lynchburg President Dr. Alison Morrison-Shetlar. “The real work of Lynchburg Tomorrow is only just beginning, and we are excited to support the city in building thriving communities.”
Funds will be used to help evaluate food security in the city and improve access to healthy foods — one of three focus areas for Lynchburg Tomorrow. The other two are access to affordable health care and leadership development.
“[We are] proud to be involved with Lynchburg Tomorrow,” said Bill Bodine ’78, ’89 MAd, president of the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation. “We see it as an opportunity to provide a bridge between the resources available through the University and local nonprofits working hard to make this area an even better place to live and work.”
