University of Lynchburg will celebrate Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 10, with two events honoring local U.S. military veterans.
At 10 a.m., a Veterans Day service will be held in Snidow Chapel. During the service, Treney Tweedy ’97, vice mayor for the City of Lynchburg and a former U.S. Navy journalist, will speak.
In addition to her military service and service to the City of Lynchburg, including six years as a school board member, Tweedy works as senior director of workforce development and community engagement for Goodwill Industries of the Valleys.
She is a member of the Lynchburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and serves on the boards of Steps with Links, the Hill City Youth Football and Cheerleading Association, and Virginia Amateur Sports.
Following the service, at 11 a.m., there will be a Veterans Day Observance Luncheon. The luncheon, hosted by LC President Dr. Ken Garren and his wife, Sheila, will be held in the West Room, on the third floor of Drysdale Student Center. Tweedy also will speak at the luncheon.
Veterans among the University of Lynchburg alumni, faculty, staff, and student body are invited to the luncheon, along with a guest, at no cost. For all others, lunch is $15. Both events are open to the public and all Lynchburg-area veterans are invited. To attend, please RSVP by Nov. 6, and include the names of participants.
