A year ago, the University of Lynchburg women’s basketball team was on its way to the program’s first ever conference championship. This year, the Hornets are enjoying another phenomenal year.
The team has achieved a seven-game winning streak and remains undefeated in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Including games played in the last season, the women have won their past 18 ODAC games.

Most recently, the women beat Randolph-Macon College in a game that included a career-high 31 points by Molly Shephard. In other recent matches, they beat Emory and Henry after a dramatic comeback and won 70-46 against Washington & Lee University.
In additional to team success, this season has included personal milestones. In a 96-55 victory over Averett University in December, Head Coach Abby Pyzik Smith ’04 earned her 100th win in only her seventh season as coach. The same game saw senior Charmaine Hairston score the 1,000th point of her college career while also reaching a career high of 34 points in one game.
