John Eccles is the 2016 Commencement speaker for University of Lynchburg.
Selected by the graduating class, Eccles will deliver parting words as the Class of 2016 prepares to turn the tassel and as Eccles approaches retirement. He has served LC students for 30 years, including 22 years now as vice president and dean for student development.
Commencement will be held Saturday, May 7, on the Dell beginning at 10 a.m. The rain location is Turner Gymnasium. A full schedule of Commencement events can be found on the Commencement page for undergraduates and for graduate students.
About 500 students will celebrate their graduations and receive diplomas. LC also will award honorary degrees to several friends of the College and will remember two people, Kristine Kitts and Melissa Smith, with posthumous degrees. These two members of the Class of 2016 died in separate car accidents in 2013 and 2014.
