The men’s track and field team continued to dominate the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), winning its sixth consecutive outdoor title, and 28th overall on April 19. The team finished with 162 points, 15 ahead of second-place Bridgewater College at the meet which was hosted by Roanoke College. After winning the title, head mentor Zach Haupt won his first Outdoor ODAC Coach of the Year Award after winning the indoor title in February.
As was the case in 2013, Greg Wilson completed the sweep of his three throwing events. He won the discus on Saturday with a toss of 146’6″, which was his best of the season, giving the team 10 more points, and 30 for the meet. Spencer Latham and Lesley Waddy earned points for LC, taking fourth and sixth in the event. In the other throwing event of the meet, Carlo Del Donno finished fourth in the javelin with a career best 170’0.5″.
The Hornets also took points in the other two field events. Tristan Boysaw had a season best in the triple jump and finished fourth. Brian O’Dea continued his outstanding freshman campaign and won the pole vault just as he did in the indoor season. His height of 14’5.625″ was a career best. Daniel Shannon finished third in the event.
In the 400 meter hurdles, Rachad Davis won the title for the fourth year in a row to cap a perfect run in the event. Brian Fuentes finished second in the race. However, in the 110 meter hurdles, Davis could not complete the four-year sweep. He took third in the race and it was the only ODAC hurdles race in his career that he did not win.
In the sprints, Tom Sippie took second in both the 200 and 400 meter races. Zachary Kezar took fifth in the 200 and Boysaw crossed the line as the fifth finisher in the 400. Kezar won the bronze in the 100 meter dash as well. The 4×100 meter relay team of Fuentes, Kezar, Evan Truman, and Davis had the top time of the season for the Hornets which gave them the silver in the meet. The 4×400 meter relay team of Davis, Boysaw, Sippie, and Fuentes also finished second at the meet.
