The Daura Gallery will feature four new exhibitions in January with an opening reception Tuesday, Jan. 21, 4-5 p.m.
The exhibitions are:
Pierre Daura: Inspired by Religion
Paintings and sculpture of the Holy Family, saints, and other figures in Christian art from the collection of the Daura Gallery, inspired by the medieval Catalan art of Daura’s homeland. The exhibition runs through March 7.
The Vase Project: Made in China — Landscape in Blue
These 101 porcelain vases painted by Qing Hua (blue-and-white) artists in Jingdezhen, China, from 2004 to 2006, explore contemporary industrial-landscape imagery. Curated by Barbara Diduk of Dickinson College and coordinated by the Lafayette Art Galleries. The exhibition runs through April 18.
Chinese Jade and Ivoryfrom the Daura Gallery
Collection of carved jade, ivory, and coral depicting figures and animals from Chinese mythology. Guest curator Kristin Harris. The exhibition runs through April 18.
The Look of Mortality: Leonard Baskin’s Prints from Moby-Dick
Baskin’s series of lithographs from 1970 depict Herman Melville’s literary masterpiece, Moby-Dick; or, The Whale, first published in 1851. Curated by Dr. Richard C. Burke, professor of English and John Franklin East Distinguished Professor of Humanities. The exhibition runs through April 18.
Dr. Burke will give an accompanying lecture, Life, Literature, and a Mad-Man’s Quest: Why It Doesn’t Get Better than Moby-Dick,at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Daura Gallery.
