Senior defender Rachel Sadowski was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) first-team College Division Scholar All-American on Dec. 18, the second of her career.
Award winners able to attend are recognized at the NSCAA All-America Luncheon on Saturday, January 18, 2014, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The event honors All-America players at the youth, high school, and college levels. The luncheon is held in conjunction with the 67th annual NSCAA Convention, the largest annual gathering of soccer coaches in the world.
An environmental science major, Sadowski has a cumulative GPA of 3.97. Sadowski had two goals and four assists in 2013 and was a huge part of the Hornet defense that allowed just 13 goals in 24 matches, good for a .582 goals against average and 26th best in all of Division III.
Sadowski recently earned first-team athletic All-American honors by the NSCAA in addition to the academic All-American award. The 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year also received first-team recognition on the 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-American team, after claiming second-team accolades last fall. She was named to the All-ODAC, All-South Athletic Region, and All-State first-team squads in 2012 and 2013.
Junior Dessi Dupuy was also named to the 2013 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Women’s All-America Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Dupuy was placed on the second team. She is a first-time All-American after receiving her second-team honors. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Year, Dupuy ranked #1 in the ODAC in goals (21, six ahead of the second-ranked player) and points (48, 14 ahead of the #2 player). She came on strong at the end of the season, scoring eight goals with three assists in the final four contests.
She was also named the state Player of the Year with the release of the 2013 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-State women’s soccer team. Dupuy was the offensive leader for the Hornets, the country’s second-leading scoring offense (4.63 goals per game). She scored more than 20 goals for the third straight season, increasing her career total to 77. She is just two tallies shy of the program and conference record for career goals, with a full season yet to play. Dupuy led the conference in points and goals after posting 23 goals and seven assists.
For the seventh consecutive season, Dr. Todd Olsen grabbed the VaSID Coach of the Year honor, after one of the most successful years in program history. The Hornets finished with a record of 22-2, won their fourth straight ODAC Championship, and reached the NCAA Tournament for the seventh-straight year. Olsen’s 2013 squad broke program records for wins in a season, goals scored in a season (111) and total points scored (298).
Earlier this month, Sadowski, Angela Bosco, and Dupuy led the way for the Hornets with first-team nods on the 2013 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Women’s All-South Atlantic Region team. Senior Jenn Snyder garnered second-team recognition.
This is the second-straight season that Sadowski has been named to the first team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Sadowski has two goals and four assists and has been a huge part of the Hornet defense allowing just 13 goals in 24 matches, good for a .582 goals against average and 26th best in all of Division III.
Bosco is on the first team after being named a third-team selection following the 2012 season. She ranked only behind Dupuy in the ODAC with 14 goals, and also has six assists for 34 points. She has four game-winning tallies.
Snyder rounds out the selections with the first all-region nod of her career. Snyder was one of the top two-way players in the conference, finishing with two goals and three assists in 21 matches.
