Dean John Eccles has volunteered to dye himself and his beard purple at University of Lynchburg’s 10th Annual Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society April 5 in the Dell. Rain location is Wake Field House.
The goal is to raise $33,300 with 40 teams and 600 participants, said Erin Eagen ’13, event chair. As of April 4, there were 41 teams registered with 433 participants and students have already raised $14,052. You can track LC’s progress on line.
Eccles, vice president for student development, will start the event dyed purple up to his knees and his purple status will be updated hourly. At 4 a.m., students will try to “outbid” each other by donating to his purple cause.
Events include:
6 p.m. Opening Ceremony and Survivor Lap
7 p.m. Survivor Celebration featuring singer Alma Hesson
4 a.m. Eccles’ Purple Beard Challenge
Other organizers of the event are: Jessica Hull ’14 (co-chair) and Owen Marshall ’13 (co-chair); Courtney Kelsey (faculty advisor); Mary Coates (American Cancer Society staff partner); and a committee of 15 students.
Students, faculty, and staff can register online or at the event. The registration fee is $10. Luminarias will also be available for purchase for $10.
