Senior attack Dylan Hoff broke the school career point record April 11 with 229 points as the third-ranked University of Lynchburg men’s lacrosse team defeated Christopher Newport University 16-6 in non-conference play. The win also marked the 300th victory for the men’s lacrosse program, dating back to the 1980 season.
The Captains got on the scoreboard a minute into the action on a tally from Kyle Pasta. The Hornets countered with the next nine goals, with Hoff tallying three goals and two assists to tie the record set by Billy McCulloch ’05 of 225 career points. The Hornets went into halftime ahead 9-2 and led 11-4 at 6:52 in the third period when Hoff assisted junior Derek Sweet to set the record. Hoff finished with five goals and four assists in the contest.
Junior midfielder Max Voumard posted three goals and an assist, while senior Ben Sauer had two goals and two assists. Sweet had a goal and an assist, and senior Andrew Wilfong had two assists. Matt Jernack, Matt Manzo, Pat Ohrem, Todd Galvin and Nick Betonti each had a tally for LC.
Senior Jeff Schwartz won all 11 of his face-off attempts and the Hornets controlled 18 of the game’s 26 opportunities. Senior Franc Cook made seven saves in 45 minutes of action in net.
Pasta finished with three scores and an assist for the Captains (3-9). Billy Crist had a goal and an assist.
