University of Lynchburg Theatre will present The Miss Firecracker Contest, a two-act play by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Beth Henly, February 23-26 in the Dillard Theatre. Nan Kordos is the director.
The story belongs in the group of Southern Gothic comedies for which Henley is best known and features a dysfunctional bunch of characters who tackle life in their own peculiar ways. The play was produced on Broadway and made into a movie with screenplay by Henley. Holly Hunter played the lead role in both the Broadway and movie versions.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23-25 and 2 p.m. on Feb. 26.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for students. The box office will open Feb. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. daily and a half hour before curtain time. All seats are reserved.
Because of mature themes and language, it is recommended that no one under the age of 16 attend the performances.
