A photographic magazine produced by four LC students received entry into an exclusive art exhibition to take place in Leipzig, Germany in May 2010.
The exhibition explores the new media of zines, especially those that traverse different media. The student collective, coterie magazine, was reviewed and accepted by the curator of the D21 Kunstraum gallery.
Student editors of the magazine are art majors Brandon Hunter ’10, Kim Davies ’10, andMyles “Millie” Coleman ’11, and education major Lauren Miller ’11.
ArtZines are small artist publications that circulate in a variety of forms and shapes in print and online versions. The ArtZines show will shed light on an artistic medium that not only seems to have continuously gained visibility, popularity, and presence in contemporary art institutions, it also addresses the ways in which its producers have adopted new channels of distribution made possible by the Internet.
A symposium within the framework of the show will bring a number of zine producers, distributers, collectors, curators, and readers together. These participants will connect and discuss different facets of their work, outline historical dimensions as well as influential precursors, and the impact of technological advance and digital culture for a traditionally paper-based medium. Two workshops will also be held.
After the exhibition, the publications will be archived and are accessible in the arts library of Halle 14, another non-profit organization in Leipzig.
The students are seeking help funding a trip to Leipzig. For more information, contact Brandon Hunter at hunter_b@students.lynchburg.edu.
