On Tuesday, February 9, 2010, the School of Business and Economics hosted the second Gifford Lecture in Business Ethics. Speaker Sherron Watkins, former vice president of Corporate Development at the Enron Corporation, worked for Andrew Fastow in the mergers and acquisitions group. Ms. Watkins alerted then-CEO Ken Lay to accounting irregularities within the company and warned him that Enron “might implode in a wave of accounting scandals.” Praised for her courageous actions, Time magazine named her as one of three “Persons of the Year” (2002) for doing “right just by doing their jobs rightly.” With prize-winning journalist Mimi Swartz, Ms. Watkins is the author of Power Failure, theInside Story of the Collapse of ENRON (2003).
While at University of Lynchburg, Ms. Watkins took time for autographs and pictures with students.
