The Concert Choir and Choral Union will present a benefit concert for the Lynchburg Branch of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank on October 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Snidow Chapel. Admission to the performance will be a donation of cash or non-perishable food items.
The concert, Love Songs, will be conducted by Dr. Jong Kim, professor of music and director of graduate studies in music. Lee Anne Sheridan, candidate for the master of arts in music, will conduct the Choral Union in “Go Where I Send Thee” by Andre Thomas. The Choral Union also will perform Vier Zigeunerlieder (Four Gypsy Songs), op. 112 by Johannes Brahms; Rembrances of Love by James McCray; Estampie Natalis by Vaclav Nelhybel; Kyrie from Memorial, and “The Water is Wide” by Rene Clausen.
The Concert Choir will sing Laetatus sum (Psalm 122: 1 and 7) by Johann Michael Haydn; Three Australian Bush Songs by Iain Grandage; “Come to Me, My Love,” text by Christina Rossetti, music by Norman Dello Joio; “Sing Me to Heaven,” text by Jane Griner, music by Daniel E. Gawthrop; Gloria from Missa Kenya by Paul Basler; and “Praise His Holy Name!” by Keith Hampton.
Rose Peak will accompany both ensembles.
