Latin Placement Test

If you enter Lynchburg College directly from high school, and have had 2 years of Latin in high school, you may qualify for enrollment at the Intermediate (201) level if you wish to continue with Latin.

However, unless you have earned college transfer or AP credit, you will be required to take a placement test to determine the level at which you should succeed when entering the Elementary II (102) and Intermediate language levels.

The test is available online in Moodle, through Academic Advising. If you do not take the placement test before registering, you will be automatically enrolled in Elementary Latin I (101).

The Latin placement test is divided into 2 parts:

  • The first part measures knowledge of Latin grammar
  • The second tests ability to read and translate simple Latin sentences

You may use a dictionary for the translation. After the test has been completed, it is graded by the Latin instructor. You will be notified by email of your score and the level of Latin in which you should enroll.
