In a rapidly changing society, literacy holds the key to success in the personal, professional, and civic lives of our children. Lynchburg’s Master of Education in Reading (MEd) program prepares educators who are committed to excellence in the teaching of reading and/or serving as reading specialists at the school or district level.
Program Emphases
- Reading Instruction: This emphasis is designed for educators who are interested in strengthening their understanding of the field of reading in order to become experts on reading in their classrooms.
- Reading Specialist: This emphasis is designed for educators who may want to move out of the classroom into specialized teaching of reading, to work as a literacy coach, or to move into central office director positions. This emphasis leads to a Virginia licensure endorsement as a reading specialist, with passage of the Reading for Virginia Educators Assessment.
