Spanish Night: The Music and Poetry of García Lorca

"La música y poesía de García Lorca," presented as part of Foreign Language Week at Lynchburg College.

Event will be dedicated to the Spanish poet García Lorca (1898-1936). Lynchburg College students and faculty will sing some of his "canciones populares" and recite his poetry. Two students will give a presentation on Lorca's life. Special guest of the evening will be the Cuban baritone Carlos Alemán. He will sing some of the popular songs that Lorca collected in his native Andalucía. Naomi Amos will accompany on piano. 

All presentations will be in Spanish.

German Film Night

Join us for a film screening of Almanya: Welcome to Germany (2011), comedy, and winner of the 2011 "Lola" (Germany's Academy Award) for Best Film.

After 45 years in Germany, a former Turkish guestworker takes his family back to the homeland.

Event is part of Foreign Language Week at Lynchburg College.

Lecture - Mantuan's Pastorals: The Classical Heritage in Renaissance Italy and Early Modern England

Dr. Lee Piepho, Shallenberger Brown Research Professor, Sweet Briar College, will present “Mantuan's Pastorals: The Classical Heritage in Renaissance Italy and Early Modern England.”

Baptista Mantuanus (Mantuan) (1447-1516), was an Italian Carmelite reformer, humanist, and poet. He wrote over 55,000 lines of verse, and it is largely through his poetry that he became famous and influential on the cultures of early modern Europe.

Sixth Annual Gifts for Gulu 5K Run/Walk and Children's Fun Runs

LC partners with Sports Outreach, Riverside Runners, and the Lynchburg Road Runners for this annual event, which raises money for projects in the Gulu region of Uganda.

All races will start and finish on LC’s Jack M. Toms ’69 Track.

5K race starts at 8 a.m. At approximately 9:15 a.m., the one-mile and one-quarter mile Children's Fun Runs will begin.

Proceeds from this year's races will go toward the construction and furnishing of the Ger House for Trauma Counseling in Gulu.
