Corban Addison, author of A Walk Across the Sun, will be the keynote speaker. He will join a panel addressing policy changes that could decrease human trafficking with Dr. Kim McCabe, LC school dean and author of The Trafficking of Persons: National and International Responses, and Sgt. Steve Anders of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Bedford Sheriff’s Department.

All Day Slavery Awareness at Shellenberger Field and Turner Gymnasium, including tents with displays on all types of modern-day slavery — child slavery, sex trafficking, and forced labor —prepared by LC students and Beyond Borders. Tents located in parking area above Shellenberger Field.

Film Screening of "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide"

Portions of the PBS documentary Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide based on the book by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.

Film will be followed by a panel addressing modern-day slavery, including Ann Wright of Show of Force, Holly Herdman ’14 of Love 146, Timothy Spaulding of Freedom 4/24, and Tiffany Eriksen of World Help.

Spanish Night: The Music and Poetry of García Lorca

"La música y poesía de García Lorca," presented as part of Foreign Language Week at Lynchburg College.

Event will be dedicated to the Spanish poet García Lorca (1898-1936). Lynchburg College students and faculty will sing some of his "canciones populares" and recite his poetry. Two students will give a presentation on Lorca's life. Special guest of the evening will be the Cuban baritone Carlos Alemán. He will sing some of the popular songs that Lorca collected in his native Andalucía. Naomi Amos will accompany on piano. 

All presentations will be in Spanish.

German Film Night

After 45 years in Germany, a former Turkish guestworker takes his family back to the homeland.
