Marketing professor honored

Stef NicovichDr. Stefan Nicovich, associate professor of marketing, has been named the 2010-11 recipient of the C. Raine Sydnor Sr. Professorship Award for Teaching Excellence in Business in the School of Business and Economics.

The Sydnor Professorship recognizes teaching excellence in business by honoring a master teacher who has demonstrated, over an extended period of time, a dedication to classroom excellence, a commitment to advising and supervising students, and effectiveness in business education instruction. Nominations are submitted by faculty colleagues or students.

A member of the Lynchburg College faculty since 2005, Dr. Nicovich previously taught at the University of New Hampshire and the University of Memphis. His primary research interests include the impact of computer-mediated communication on consumer attitudes and ways in which self-concept affects decision-making in artificial environments. His primary teaching interests are in the areas of marketing communication, consumer behavior, and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Nicovich is the author of more than 25 articles and competitive paper presentations, which have appeared in such publications as The International Journal of Advertising, The Journal Consumer Behavior, The Journal of Business and Economic Studies, The Journal of Interactive Advertising, The Journal of Computer Mediated Communications, Information Resources Management Journal, and The Journal of Interactive Marketing.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Nicovich has served the College as chair of the Marketing Department, member of the Marketing Task Force, and member of the College Marketing Committee. He is the faculty sponsor for the Lynchburg College Entrepreneurial Organization.

He has also worked with numerous local organizations including CASA, the Gateway House, Rush Homes, and Special Olympics Virginia - Piedmont Region. He serves on the Board of Directors for the First Unitarian Church of Lynchburg and is the official balloon animal artist for the Festival of Gardening event sponsored by the Hill City Master Gardener Association.

Dr. Nicovich earned his PhD and MBA at the University of Memphis and his BA at the University of Colorado.

C. Raine Sydnor Sr. '31, a distinguished alumnus, was a founder of the College's Board of Overseers, on which he served from 1965 until his death in 1983. The C. Raine Sydnor Sr. Endowment in the School of Business and Economics was established by the generosity of numerous friends and family members.
