Virginia Living Magazine named University of Lynchburg among the top schools in the state for “Research & Mentorships” in its State of Education 2016.
The education-themed supplement to Virginia Living’s October 2016 issue celebrates excellence and innovation in Virginia’s schools. It features more than 150 programs in public and private high schools and four- and two-year colleges leading the way in innovation across the state. After thorough review of each school’s programs and accomplishments, Virginia Living’s editors selected schools that have instituted programs or recently begun capital improvements aimed at strengthening students’ experiences in and beyond the classroom.
The feature highlights University of Lynchburg’s ongoing partnership with Historic Sandusky. Over the past five years, LC and the Historic Sandusky Foundation have collaborated on a variety of projects, including lectures, research, and archaeological work. Students have helped with ongoing projects, including archaeological digs, and have organized a variety of education programs at the site. This year, the organizations made their partnership permanent when LC acquired the historic home, best known for its role as Union headquarters during the Battle of Lynchburg in the Civil War. The home continues to operate as a historic site open for tours, but students will be use Historic Sandusky even more as a living history laboratory.
