Dr.James I. Robertson Jr., prominent Civil War historian, will speak on Whatever happened to? … The postwar lives of Civil War soldiers on Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Ballroom, Hall Campus Center.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, isco-sponsored by the LC and Historic Sandusky Partnership.
Dr. Robertson, Alumni Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History at Virginia Tech, is one of the most well-known Civil War historians in the country. On the 100th anniversary of the American Civil War, President John F. Kennedy asked Dr. Robertson to serve as executive director of the United States Civil War Centennial Commission. He is also a member of the executive committee of Virginia’s Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission.
The Danville, Va., native is the author or editor of more than twenty books that include such award-winning studies as Civil War! America Becomes One Nation, General A.P. Hill, and Soldiers Blue and Gray. His massive biography of Gen. “Stonewall” Jackson won eight national awards and was used as the base for the Ted Turner/Warner Bros. mega-movie, “Gods and Generals.” Dr. Robertson was chief historical consultant for the film.
The recipient of every major award given in the Civil War field, Dr. Robertson is in great demand as a speaker. He holds MA and PhD degrees from Emory University. He is executive director of the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies, created by Virginia Tech in 1999.
