What is a Resident Assistant?
Resident Assistants (RAs) are trained peer leaders who foster student social and academic growth within their individual community. RAs help build this inclusive and welcoming community by hosting programs, developing relationships, serving as a familiar first resource, and much more.
What is the RA’s main job?
RAs are community builders and help ensure that students feel like LC is their home. They help our students by referring them to appropriate campus resources, hosting fun and educational programs, enforcing campus policies to ensure safety, and connecting students with their peers. RAs will also complete certain additional tasks, including but not limited to administrative tasks, committee work, and cross community collaboration, for the benefit of the entire LC community.
What qualities make a good RA?
All of our staff is different, but some common qualities of successful RAs include leadership, communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, integrity, positive role modeling, innovation, peer development, critical thinking, collaboration, teamwork, and a love for community.
Where do RAs live?
Our RAs live within the communities they serve. Within our residence halls, RAs live in a single room on the floor/ wing that they are responsible. For our Southside RAs, they live within the Southside community in a house, townhouse, or apartment depending upon their RA assignment. Southside RAs are provided a single room within their residence and afforded the opportunity to pick their roommates.
What is the compensation for being an RA?
RAs are awarded a yearly stipend of $3,050 that is paid over the course of the fall and spring semester in bi-weekly paychecks. RAs within residence halls are also given a single room at a double rate. Housing costs on Southside depend on the assignment and consistent with the rates set by the Business Office.
