Spring Events
Relay For Life
Held Annually in April
At Relay For Life events, no one faces cancer alone. We come together every year at more than 3,500 Relay events around the country to support and celebrate survivors and caregivers.
Each Relay has special events and activities (many throughout the year) just for survivors and their caregivers, so they can connect with others and know there is a strong support system available to them.
Special Olympics
Held Annually in April
We work on and off the playing field to empower people with intellectual disabilities – and those around them – to create a new world of inclusion and community, where every person is accepted and welcomed, regardless of ability or disability.
Held Annually in April.
Supported by Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.
National Volunteer Week
April 17-23, 2022
Celebrate Service! National Volunteer Week, powered by Points of Light, is an opportunity to celebrate the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to come together to tackle tough challenges, and build stronger, more resilient communities. Each year, we shine a light on the people and causes that inspire us to serve, recognizing and thanking volunteers who lend their time, talent and voice to make a difference in their communities.
National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each year, with thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the week. Plan or attend an event to celebrate the impact of volunteers in your community, and inspire others to serve.
Volunteer Week Events:
- Voter Registration Event
- March on Litter
Fall Events
First Year Experience Hornet Days: Service Plunge

You’ll get a chance to volunteer throughout the Lynchburg community during the Service Plunge. Volunteerism is important at Lynchburg, where your peers donate 70,000 community service hours annually.
Virginia 10 Miler
Held Annually in September
Join more than 4,000 runners on a historic course that has hosted participants from around the globe. The 10 mile run, 10 mile (2-Person) Relay, 4 mile run/walk, and Amazing Mile Children’s Run invite men, women, and children of all ages and abilities to participate.
St. Baldrick’s
Held Annually in the Fall Semester
Shave Your Head! St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events are where it all began. Nearly half a million shaved heads later, they’re still our most popular fundraiser. Kids with cancer often lose their hair during treatment. As a “shavee,” you’ll shave your head to show your support — and in the process, inspire friends and family to donate to childhood cancer research.
Sign up to go bald at one of the thousands of local head-shaving events, or join the “virtual event” to shave on your own.
Supported by the Interfraternity Council
