May I deposit money in the account at the start of the semester for books, then get a bill for subsequent purchases?
Yes, this is a combination account. Deposit money into the account and designate a low limit. A limit on the account ensures you will not receive a bill for more than the limit you specified. Please be aware that the delay time in off-campus pizza purchases being charged to accounts may cause the account to go over limit. The limit is revolving, so once you make a payment the credit limit is restored. Limits are not monthly limits in spending.
Must the entire Hornet account balance be paid monthly?
No, but the Hornet account will be charged a finance charge each month it remains past due (18% APR). After 60 days past due, the account is placed on hold until the entire balance is paid.
Account balances are billed at the end of the month the purchases are made. Account balances become past due and are charged a finance charge at the end of the following month.
You may pay the account off partially each month with the understanding that there is a finance charge and once the account becomes past due, the account cannot be used until it is paid in full.
Can the Hornet account be paid monthly by a credit card?
Fill out and return the Paying Account by Credit Card Each Month application form. Indicate the amount to be paid monthly or balance if you would like the balance to be paid.
Accounts are placed on hold when the entire balance has not been paid in 60 days. Once an account is placed on hold the entire balance must be paid for the account to be taken off hold.
How does the limit on the charge account work? How do I change the limit on the account?
The credit limit is revolving. The charge limit is restored by the amount of payment applied to the account. The limit is not a monthly charge limit. Changes in account limit can be requested in writing via mail or fax 434.544.8243. When requesting changes to the account, please print the student’s name and Social Security number, the change requested, and the daytime phone number and signature of the person who authorized the account.
How do I get my (student’s) account off hold?
A student may not have a hold removed if the account-authorizer/parent has requested the hold.
For holds on the account because it is past due, pay the entire balance owed online at /payments. It will take up to three business days for your payment to post on your account.
You may also call with a credit card at 434.544.8246, deliver payment in person, or mail the payment to the University cashier’s office. Payments made before 3 p.m. will post at midnight that day. Payments made after 3 p.m. will post at midnight the following night.
What is the difference between the Hornet account and the Lynchburg Express account?
The Lynchburg Express account is strictly a debit food account and can only be used at designated food locations on campus.
It does not include the Campus Store, campus post office or HUB purchases. Lynchburg Express supplements the meal plan or can be a meal option for students not required to have a meal plan. The Lynchburg Express includes all dining options on campus: the Dining Hall, Brewed Awakenings/Muse, Pizza at Stinger’s, On Common Ground and Westover Room.
Funds deposited to the Lynchburg Express can be refunded or transferred to meet other financial obligations as long as they are not designated as a meal plan (including the Hornet Plan).
If you have additional questions about the Lynchburg Express account or meal plans, please call 434.544.8606.
How does the off-campus pizza delivery service work?
University of Lynchburg partners with Domino’s Pizza to provide pizza delivery. If the Hornet account is authorized for off-campus pizza delivery, the student may order pizza for delivery from Domino’s (provided the account has at least $100 funds/credit available). The purchase will appear on the Hornet account within one to two weeks.

Do I have to have my University of Lynchburg I.D. to charge on my Hornet account?
Yes, your University I.D. is required at the time of purchase.
May I get cash from my Hornet account?
No. Only purchases can be made against your account. When leaving the University you may request a refund of remaining funds or you may request that money deposited into the account be transferred to pay other University obligations.
I have financial aid coming to pay for my course materials – how do I buy them?
Go to MyLynchburg, then Buy Textbooks and place your order. It will charge to your Hornet account. Students can check this balance and payments posting to it at studentsonline thru MyLynchburg. If you receive a bill, contact the business office to see if all your funds have arrived and paid everything necessary.
Once your financial aid arrives at the University, all financial obligations will be paid prior to a refund check being issued. Your Hornet account will be charged an 18% APR finance charge each month it remains past due while waiting for the financial aid to arrive. Once the financial aid has paid the account, do not use the account until next semester.
Students who charge on the account after their financial aid has paid the account must pay the balance monthly. A past due account will not be taken off hold regardless of future financial aid expected. You may pay for course materials with other payment options, cash, check, or credit card and if financial aid remains after all financial obligations to the University have been met, you will be issued a refund check.
May I set up an account without my parent’s authorization?
You may set up a debit account by filling out an application and depositing money into the account.
If you are not claimed as a dependent on anyone else’s tax return, you may open a charge or debit account – and only you have to sign the signature card.
If I have financial aid coming, may I use my Hornet account?
Yes — if you order your books thru MyLynchburg. You cannot purchase in-store with financial aid funds or scholarship funds that are expected in the business office. You may use your account in future semesters as long as the account is not on hold. Prevent your account from being placed on hold by not using the account after your financial aid has paid the balance or by making monthly payments on the remaining balance after your aid has posted to the account.
