‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ opens October 18 at University of Lynchburg
Bumbling pirates, funny mermaids, and the tale of an orphan boy all can be found in the University of Lynchburg’s fall production of Peter and the Starcatcher, the prequel to J.M. Barrie’s classic Peter Pan story. Peter and the Starcatcher opens at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 18, in Dillard Theatre. Additional performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 21.
Concerts scheduled for Parents and Family Weekend
Three concerts are scheduled during Parents and Family Weekend, September 14 to16, 2018.
Curtain Call concert will feature new, original songs
Students in Curtain Call, a Lynchburg College music theatre performing group, will present a unique concert of never-before-heard music at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 29, in Dillard Theatre. The concert features songs that the theatre department commissioned from songwriters in New York City, giving students the opportunity to premiere a song without basing their performance on other artists’ interpretations.
3D printer brings ideas to life for theatre students
This spring, theatre professor Christopher Otwell is teaching students how to do this in a 3D printing class, offered for the first time at Lynchburg. Using open-source software, including Tinkercad and Simplify3D, Otwell’s five students — all theatre majors — are learning to make things with the department’s MakerGear M2 3D printer.
Alumna returns to perform Eleanor Roosevelt play March 14
Jane VanBoskirk ’70 will perform “Eleanor Roosevelt – Across a Barrier of Fear” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, in Dillard Theatre. The performance is free and open to the public. “Throughout the play we see how she learned to articulate her values and vision, how she kept moving forward in spite of disappointments and defeat.”
