University of Lynchburg hosts Minority Business Expo

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The first-ever Minority Business Expo was held at the University of Lynchburg on Friday. This event highlighted over 23 minority-owned and operated businesses.

It was hosted by the University of Lynchburg’s African American Affinity Group (AAAG).

Tracy Mccray was a visionary for the event. She said it helped Dr. King's dream come true.

"I'm excited to see all these people and all these things come together and the vision finally is here. Martin Luther King had a birthday in January and so to me seeing all those people together, it solidifies the dream," Mccray said.

Mccray said this event helps these small businesses get noticed.

"A lot of businesses that we have in Lynchburg and surrounding counties, don't get the exposure that they should or require to make their business successful. So, coming here they will have the opportunity to other businesses at the university," Mccray said.

Dr. Robert Canida is a member of the AAAG. He said it was an exciting first year for the event.

"We are so excited to have a small fraction of the black businesses here in Lynchburg," Dr. Canida said.

Organizers said they look forward to holding additional expo events in the years to come.
