Lynchburg and Bedford saw low numbers for Super Tuesday voters.

On the Republican ballot, voters can choose between former President Donald Trump and Nikki Haley. On the Democratic ballot there is President Joe Biden, Marianne Williamson, and Dean Phillips.

University of Lynchburg Political Science Chair Dr. David Richards said the low turnout could be because most people already expect another showdown between Trump and Biden.

"The Tuesday primary is super snooze day because really it's just not going to tell us a whole lot. I expect turnout to be relatively low across the entire country but especially in Virginia," Richards said.

In the Town of Bedford, at 2:00, the Registrar reported just about 5,200 voters, just a little more than 8% of registered voters.

With early voting and by mail, the total is 7,064, or 11% of registered voters.

"I hope everybody gets out and exercises their civic duty today. You can either be part of the problem or part of the solution. And part of the solution is exercising your right to vote," said Republican Voter Beth White.

The Registrar said the numbers are low and disappointing considering the amount of work that goes into preparing for election day.

Even if you haven't registered ahead of time, you can do same-day registration and vote using a provisional ballot. It will be counted once you are verified.

If voting by mail, it must be postmarked by Tuesday and arrive at the Registrar's office by Friday.

Polls close at 7:00 and you can still vote as long as you're in line at that time.
