A pair of University of Lynchburg field hockey players have garnered All-America honors following one of the most successful seasons in program history.
Freshman Khanyisile Mzizi and sophomore Marlou Wendriks both earned spots on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America second team in Division III, the organization announced Tuesday.
The two became the Hornets' 43rd and 44th All-Americans and marked the first time since 2019 (and third overall) Lynchburg has had two players earn All-America status in the same year. UL was one of 12 schools with at least two athletes on the NFHCA All-America teams.
As part of the Hornets' run to the NCAA tournament's Elite Eight (their sixth such appearance in program history) and a 21-3 season (just Lynchburg's fourth 20-win campaign in history and a mark second only to the Hornets' 22-win 1981 showing), Wendriks and Mzizi also helped UL to its 22nd Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship as two of the league's top players.
