DOWNINGTOWN, PA — In a recent announcement, Downingtown Mayor Dague and Borough Council declared the appointment of Brendan Brazunas as the new Chief of Police, effective from January 1, 2024. The selection followed a rigorous hiring process, including interviews by a panel of Police Chiefs. Chief Brazunas, currently serving as Lieutenant with the Upper Merion Township Police Department, accepted the offer.
Brazunas brings with him three decades of law enforcement, leadership, and public service experience. His commitment to serving Downingtown Borough and East Caln Township with professionalism and integrity is well noted.
Educationally, Chief Brazunas holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Lynchburg College and a Master of Arts Degree in Emergency Management and Homeland Security from Arizona State University. He has also graduated from the Police Executive Leadership Program at the University of Louisville.
Mayor Dague expressed confidence in Brazunas’ capabilities, stating, “We are confident Chief Brazunas’ proven leadership and mentoring will assist the Downingtown Police Department in overcoming the challenges ahead, as they work together to support and serve our community.”
President Rakoff added, “I was impressed with Chief Brazunas’ professionalism and his accomplishments as he rose through the ranks.”
Expressing his excitement about the new role, Chief Brazunas stated, “Serving in the emergency services has been an integral part of my life for over 32 years…The opportunity to serve as the Chief of Police for the Downingtown and East Caln communities…is truly an honor. I am excited to work with the great team at Downingtown PD to serve everyone who lives, works and travels through the communities they protect.”
