Amherst County Board of Supervisors appointed Jeremy Bryant as County Administrator on Tuesday.

According to the county, Jeremy Bryant has over 21 years of experience in local government. He began his career with the City of Lynchburg in the Community Development Department. He later moved to Johnson City, Tennessee, and served as a long-range planner.

In 2006, Bryant returned home to Amherst County to assume the role of Planning and Zoning Director and has been the Director of the Amherst County Community Development office for over sixteen years, the county said.

He has served as the Interim County Administrator since October 2022.

Bryant holds a Doctorate Degree in Leadership Studies from the University of Lynchburg, obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from East Tennessee State University, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from Radford University with a concentration in planning and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the county said.

According to the county, Bryant is a graduate of the Senior Executive Institute (SEI) at the Weldon Cooper Center for public service from the University of Virginia and the National Association of Counties (NACO) Professional Development Academy. In 2018, Governor Terry McAuliffe appointed him to the Virginia Commonwealth Rural Broadband Coalition.

In 2020 he was also selected by the Virginia Association of Counties (VACO) to serve on the Economic Development and Planning Steering Committee, where he continues to serve, according to the county.
