A Human Library is a way for people to reach out and connect with individuals in their community in a safe environment. During the event, borrowers known as ‘Readers,’ will check out ‘Human Books’ for short periods of time. During scheduled sessions, ‘Human Books’ will share their diverse and varied life stories, their perspectives on life, and their experiences with prejudice and stereotypes with the aim of creating awareness and understanding of others and their choices. Some of the prejudices and stereotypes that this project explores include race, sex, age, disability, sexual preference, gender identity, class, religion/belief, and lifestyle choices (i.e. body modification, polyamorous relationships, etc.).
