University celebrates Black History Month with concerts, game nights, and lectures
The University of Lynchburg is celebrating Black History Month with a series of events, including several lectures, student game nights, and concerts. Among the highlights of the month is the annual Gospel Concert, which takes place at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, in Schewel Hall’s Sydnor Performance Hall.
Lynchburg celebrates success at 2024 VFIC Ethics Bowl
For the first time since 2008, the University of Lynchburg reached the final at the VFIC Ethics Bowl, the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges’ annual event. The 2024 tournament was held on the campus of Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, on Jan. 28-29.
Registration opens for Summer Scholars 2024 at University of Lynchburg
The University of Lynchburg’s 2024 Summer Scholars Institute will take place on campus from June 16-21. The weeklong, hands-on college prep course offers four exciting tracks for rising ninth-through-12th graders interested in the health sciences, security studies, cultural history and archaeology, or entrepreneurship.
Special fund named for beloved English professor to send Westover Fellows abroad
A new fund named for Professor Emeritus Dr. Richard Burke may send two Westover Fellows abroad for the first time: graphic design major Isaiah Romsdahl ’24 and history major Jacob Jones ’25. Romsdahl is planning to join a spring break trip to Europe, while Jones hopes to travel to Mexico this summer.
Emma Bolden to open spring Thornton Reading series at Lynchburg
The first Thornton Reading of the semester will feature poet and essayist Emma Bolden, who will give a public reading at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, in Hall Campus Center’s Memorial Ballroom. A Q&A session and book signing will follow the reading, and select copies of her work will be available for purchase while supplies last.
