bobbie ellen arrington, a shamanic practitioner and speaking in tongues animist, will give the University of Lynchburg’s annual Snidow Lecture at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, in Snidow Chapel. The lecture is free and the public is invited.
According to her bio, arrington is “the daughter of Harold and Barbara, who was the daughter of Orgiareen, the daughter of Amy, the daughter of Sarah, who was the daughter of Elisha, born a slave in 1820.”
She has bachelor’s degrees in writing and political science and a master’s degree in social work. She previously served as specialist professor of social justice and human rights at Monmouth University. She is currently working on a Master of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School, with the goal of becoming an evolutionary animist theologian.
“I was fortunate enough to attend a presentation by bobbie at the last North American Hindu Chaplains Association conference, and I deeply knew that her passion for spiritual authenticity, coupled with her desire to create spiritually inclusive spaces, made her an excellent candidate for the Snidow Lecture,” said Jer Bryant ’03, ’10 MA, the University’s associate chaplain.
“Her very core radiates compassion, artistic energy, and brilliance. Undoubtedly, our community will be touched by her incredible presence.”
