The University of Lynchburg’s Master of PA Medicine Class of 2024 has achieved an impressive milestone, with every student passing the PA National Certification Exam, or PANCE, on their first attempt.
The 100% pass rate is a testament to the graduates’ dedication and the program’s curriculum, which emphasizes patient-centered care, teamwork, and leadership. Ranked 40th among the Best Physician Assistant Programs by U.S. News & World Report, the University of Lynchburg’s PA program continues to demonstrate its commitment to excellence.
University President Dr. Alison Morrison-Shetlar remarked, “This achievement reflects the excellence of our PA program and the hard work of our students. The Class of 2024 is poised to make a lasting impact in health care.”
The journey from the short white coat, received during their didactic year, to the long white coat, received on Aug. 17 at the conclusion of their coursework, marks their progression from students to preprofessionals. This transition represents the culmination of their rigorous academic and clinical training, with their new roles as health care providers officially confirmed by passing the PANCE.
During the long white coat ceremony, Morrison-Shetlar emphasized the importance behind a physician associate’s white coat. “It represents authority, professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of your patients,” she said.
“It is a symbol of the noble burden you carry and represents putting the patient first. Those who wear it have the privilege of caring for another human being and spending their career making a positive difference in the lives of patients and their families.”
PA Program Director Dr. Melissa Shaffron ’22 DMSc shared her pride in the accomplishment of the 2024 PA cohort. “The 100% pass rate highlights our students’ dedication and the rigorous preparation they received,” she said.
“They’re now ready to serve as compassionate, highly skilled PAs who will elevate patient care and leadership in the field.”
