Treney Tweedy ’97, ’20 MBA was recently appointed by Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam to the board of directors of the New College Institute. The state-funded group, located in Martinsville, Virginia, offers degrees — bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate — through partnerships with colleges and universities across the commonwealth.
NCI also offers certificate programs, professional development and training, regional cybersecurity and engineering competitions, and an internship program. Programs are aimed at students in the southern Virginia region.
Tweedy, a former U.S. Navy journalist, earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Lynchburg and is a 2020 graduate of its Master of Business Administration program.
She is currently the mayor of the city of Lynchburg, program coordinator at Blue Ridge Medical Center, executive director of her own consulting firm, and serves the community on numerous other boards, including the Lynchburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Horizon Behavioral Health Services, and others.
