The University of Lynchburg has one of the Best Physical Therapy Programs in the country, according to a recent ranking by U.S. News & World Report. Published on March 17, the 2021 list includes 239 physical therapy schools nationwide.
Lynchburg’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program accepted its first cohort of students in 2010. The DPT offers a curriculum aimed at producing “generalist physical therapists that are prepared for specialization in today’s evolving health care environment,” program director Dr. Allen Moore said.
Key features include a student-run, free physical therapy clinic; opportunities to participate in service-learning trips; and a curriculum focused on community service.
“Faculty in Lynchburg’s Physical Therapy Program really value the opportunity to work with a diverse group of devoted students,” Moore added. “Our students and alumni are the reason our program excels and continues to produce some of the country’s best and most innovative clinicians.”
U.S. News health rankings are based entirely on peer-assessment surveys sent to deans, other administrators, and faculty at accredited degree programs or schools in each discipline. To be ranked, programs must be fully accredited and in good standing during the survey period. Schools with the highest average scores appear in the rankings sorted in descending order based on their average peer-assessment score.
Lynchburg, previously unranked, is ranked at No. 179.
