Students praise University of Lynchburg for its welcoming atmosphere, dedicated professors, and vibrant campus life in “The Best 382 Colleges,” the 2018 edition of The Princeton Review’s flagship college guide.
University of Lynchburg is one of only 16 Virginia colleges and universities featured in the book, which went on sale today. The book includes about 15 percent of four-year colleges in the United States.
“We are delighted that the Princeton Review continues to name University of Lynchburg among the best colleges and universities in the United States,” said Kenneth R. Garren, president of University of Lynchburg. “We take pride in this honor being based on the input of our students, who describe engaging classrooms and a friendly community.”
The Princeton Review, an education services company, selects institutions for The Best 382 Colleges based on data from the institution as well as the responses to surveys that The Princeton Review gives to students. Here are just a few highlights from students’ comments in the 2018 edition:
Engaging academics
Classes are “very discussion based and allow for conversation.”
The “academic environment is the perfect level of challenge and excitement.”
All academic programs “are backed by the liberal arts education that allows us to expand our thinking and look at the world in a broader view.”
Great professors
“We have incredible faculty members who are caring, compassionate, and experienced. They go above and beyond for us each day.”
“I wasn’t very successful academically in high school but I have done extremely well in college. I would attribute that to the professors.”
It is “very easy to ask questions during class and meet with your professors.”
Friendly community
Students will “hold the door for you and give you a sincere smile as you walk by them on the way to class.”
“I have been given nothing but support and encouragement throughout my time in the program.”
“It does feel like one giant family here.”
Rising diversity
“LC is beginning to have more cultural diversity.”
“Most of my friends are from other states or sometimes other countries.”

Life

Students say they can “always fill any free time…exploring the city of Lynchburg.”
